A Pit Stop in Joshua Tree
In June of 2018, I moved out of California so I could head to college in Colorado. I drove out so I could bring Lolita with me (my car), and my dad and I decided to make a pit stop in Joshua Tree to do a little bit of exploring at Joshua Tree National Park. It was definitely a change of scenery from what I am used to.
Joshua Tree National Park sits on the outskirts of a pretty isolated town in southern California called Twenty-nine Palms. We stayed in town, and we planned a couple of things to do in the park. We decided to go rock climbing, hike around the Joshua trees, and look at some boulders.
My dad and I woke up the morning after arriving, and drove into the park, where we met our climbing guides. They set us up with ropes, saddles, shoes and helmets. We started pretty early so that we wouldn’t be climbing on super hot rocks. It was a truly beautiful, and the vegetation was pretty interesting to look at. We ate lunch at the base of the rocks, and thanked our guides.
After lunch, we went to a different area of the park, and did the Hidden Valley hike, along with the Skull Rock hike. They were both pretty short, but that did not mean it was uninteresting. The rock formations were gorgeous, especially with the afternoon and evening light hitting them just right.
Of course, we had to befriend some Joshua’s. They were way different structurally and visually than mostly every other tree I had seen.
My dad and I definitely made the right decision in taking advantage of the opportunity to visit Joshua Tree National Park.
