We are in Western Australia..

After leaving Indonesia, I met up with the one and only, Maddie Mason, for a week. Her and I mooched off of our friend, Boomer, who let us stay in his house, and showed us around Western Australia. Though a lot of Western Australia is very remote, we definitely had an awesome time experiencing the land, the culture, and the wildlife.

The night I got there, we hit the town. We went out to a club, stayed until the wee hours of the morning, and then we got kebabs. The next morning, we packed a little bag and headed north to Moore River. Once we got to Boomer’s house in Moore River, we visited the Pinnacles Desert.

There were lots of really interesting rock formations, as well as a ton of hot, yellow sand. Boomer, Maddie, and our friends drove around and ran through the sand to our hearts’ content.

Hula girl?

Maddie Mason!

Our weekend in Moore River was full of a bunch of teenage nonsense, beach visits, and barbecues. The beach was beautiful, and Maddie and I made a couple walks out to the beach during the day as well as under the moonlight. She got to make fun of my lack of swimming abilities, and I got watch her swim like a fish.

After two nights, we all headed back down to Perth. Maddie and I paid a visit to Scarborough Beach. It was hotter than hell outside, and the water could not have felt nicer. It was only then when I realized, “Hey, I’m in the Indian Ocean right now.” It’s kind of weird to think about where you are in the world.

The crazies.

For my last day in Perth, Maddie and I took a ferry to Rottnest Island. We got there decently early, and rented bikes to explore the island. Right when we got there, we decided to get something to eat, and we were greeted by quokkas at our feet. These little marsupials were the least shy animals I had ever seen. They were not hesitant to climb on my feet or backpack.

Matching helmets were definitely the way to go.

On the island, we snorkeled in Little Salmon Bay, cliff jumped at Eagle Bay, and drank sangria by the water. Maddie and I both think the bikes were overkill, and that we should have taken the bus, but the biking situation is one that gets funnier as the days go by. Our trip to Rottnest was nothing short of comical.

Mmmm, the sweet taste of sangria.

After taking the ferry back to Perth, Boomer and his friends took Maddie and I to the pub for our last night. We hung out, drank some ciders, and ate some dinner. It was a great way to end the trip.

I am very grateful to Boomer for giving me a place to stay (as well as a grand tour), and I hope he comes to visit the US soon.

If you have any questions about my trip to Western Australia, let me know! See ya next time…
